Church Plant Application Process

Of course any church can plant a new church without bringing an application to ASAP, and ASAP would never want to be seen to be hindering local initiative for planting churches. That being said, an application is required when a church is seeking funding from Ministry and Mission. Even when not seeking funding, the ASAP process can help the local church to ask the kind of questions that ought to be answered prior to launching a new church. Most importantly, the church plant application process will help the sponsoring church identify a suitable church planter, who will, under God, have a greater likelihood of leading the new church to healthy maturity.

Application

The application is a word document that is available for download from the church planting website. This is filled out and sent to the email address found on the document.

Church Planter Screening

The actual planter themselves is understandably one of the most important parts in ensuring the success of a new church plant. So an essential part of assessing the church plant application is the church planter being screened.

Sponsor and Planter Interviews

The interview gives opportunity for the ASAP team to meet the sponsor and the potential church planter and make some assessment about how the ongoing relationship is going to work. This is done once the church planter has been screened.

Recommendations

ASAP considers the application and makes one of three recommendations:

Category 1 → Approved and funding provided

Category 2 → Approved but no funding granted (When the church has not requested funding or when the planter is not assessed or not recommended category A or when there are no funds available).

Category 3 → The church plant is not approved. Reasons may be given and this will help those making the proposal to shape any future approaches.
